Owned by therapeutic educational consultant Karen Mabie, The School Solution was created to help struggling adolescents find the educational and/or therapeutic boarding school setup that is best for them. Karen works with families whose child (ages 11 to 26) is struggling despite their best efforts at home.

This could be due to any number of issues, including but not limited to:

• emotional needs
• physical needs
• addiction
• ADD
• ADHD

These issues often get in the way of your child’s education and their ability to learn. At this point, parents may feel hopeless or frightened, but Karen meets all clients with determination and knowledge thanks to her extensive  experience in educational psychology and consulting.

When a family comes to The School Solution for help, we first set up an introductory meeting or phone call upon completion of the intake form. At this introductory meeting, we strive to really understand your child’s individual needs. We discuss social, physical, and academic development to better focus our search.

After our introductory meeting, it’s time for us to do the leg work. We extensively review all the forms that have been given to us, as well as interviewing past teachers and therapists who have worked with your child. After this is completed, we identify and contact schools that we think would be best suited for your child’s specific requirements.

Our main goal is to figure out what kind of structure is best for your son or daughter. Often times, a therapeutic boarding school may be the answer. Therapeutic schooling is most often a combination of residential treatment and individualized schooling. Many adolescents would benefit from therapeutic boarding schools, especially if their emotional, social, or physical needs make traditional schooling a challenge.

Therapeutic boarding schools offer open enrollment year-round, and opportunities to catch up academically if need be. Unique academic structure often helps an adolescent who has previously struggled in school, and the therapy offered also allows them to better focus on academia in general.

Structure can be rigorous or more laid back, depending on the therapeutic boarding school, and they are often located in a rural setting. This setting may offer recreational options like hiking, walking, swimming, and more. Creative outlets are also offered for adolescents who would benefit from self expression through music, drama, or writing. The student’s family is also involved through weekly phone calls, visits, and even family workshops. It all depends on where you decide to send your child.
