The wilderness is a safe place where young people, with the support of professional therapists, can begin to understand why they are currently struggling and begin to rebuild their lives and reconnect with their families.
There are many different wilderness programs with unique approaches, each program has therapists with specific training to help children and young adults with a wide range of challenges; the key is finding the right place for your child. The wilderness is a healthy, strength-based, intervention where kids are unplugged from their stressful, dysfunctional lives. They eat well, sleep well, exercise every day and have daily group therapy and weekly individual therapy. In addition, it is a good place to get a sober, professional assessment of the studentโs learning, social and emotional needs. Each program also has its own approach to family work, at a minimum, each therapist will be speaking with the parents weekly, include a family workshop, and the child and family will be encouraged to share through letters.Therapeutic Wilderness is a special place where young people can begin their journey back to health and strength.
